Will RIM announce a 9.7″ BlackBerry 10 Tablet on Wednesday?
RIM announced yesterday that it’s going to run a BlackBerry 10 ad during the Super Bowl.
In the press release they also referred to “next generation tablets”.
RIM confirms that BlackBerry 10, its new mobile computing platform that will power the next generation of smartphones and tablets, will be featured in a commercial during Super Bowl XLVII.
Now this has got us wondering on whether there will be an announcement of a new BlackBerry 10 tablet slipped into the launch details on Wednesday.
We have heard from sources for a while that RIM have been working on a 9.7″ tablet and Wednesday would be a perfect day to announce this, especially if the tablet has updated hardware and runs BlackBerry 10.
A brand new 9.7″ BlackBerry tablet with BlackBerry 10 and a real hardware update would be a fantastic surprise come Wednesday and would complement BlackBerry 10 smartphones beautifully.
What do you think? Is a new tablet on the cards or are they simply referring to the fact that existing PlayBook’s will be upgraded to BlackBerry 10 some time after launch?
That’s 7", right? If you’ve got a 7 foot tablet, you need to post pics or it doesn’t exist!
This is interesting.. But the 7′ is just good enough for me..
One thing that would really make Wednesday even better for me, aside from all the BB10 goodness, would be the announcement of a new LIGHTER, thinner, more ergonomic PlayBook 7" tablet. Something with a bit of a raised contour on the back akin to the Nook or Kindle readers would do nicely.
Although I agree with Twidget and the others about it being a little large, there have been times when I have wondered how some more screen are would feel. Some games as well would be better rendered in the larger format.
I have some friends who love the PlayBook but would have liked for it to be larger so that they can do a lot of their reading and editing on it without any issues.
Personally, I love the 7" and have had it since it has been released but I would love to have the larger one coupled with the BB10 phone
Sadly, in India, we will have to wait at least 2-3 weeks before getting our hands on one
It would definitely be great if they announced this new tablet. There are alot of people interested in BlackBerry 10! I’m ready to experience the 10 as soon as it releases!
Personally I would like to see and try a larger BlackBerry tablet first. If it is not too larege where I can still carry it around easily then I would definitely be interested in it.
I think a refresh of the curent 7" playbook would be great. And a 9.7" is a good option for people who want it
A larger tablet is probably not for me, however, if you look at the number of people lugging around the ipad, then I believe that there could be a market. Sometimes I think people would buy things that they can hold up to everyone to show they are cool and hip and can play solitaire on an $800 oversized ipod. Just my 2 cents. I am always amazed at the numbers out there doing this, but, a lot of people did the same thing with computer purchases.
7 inches is more than big enough for me.
Don’t think 9.7 inches would fit in my handbag.
As I wrote, the size of the tablet, or even if they will announce a table is uncorfirmed.
We have been hearing about 9.7 inch for months though and it would be a nice addition for those who want it.
Personally I’m not that excited about a larger tablet. I had the first-generation iPad when it came out, and found that with the size and limited function I’d rather just use a 7" tablet for reading or casual use and a laptop if I needed to do more. It will be good for BB fans, but I don’t think it will find widespread success against the established large tablets and full Windows tablets hitting the streets.
