The first Tizen smartphones may be relegated to Japan and a few other…

No Tizen devices coming to the US for a while

In a recent interview with FierceWireless, Ryan Bidan, Samsung Mobile’s director of product marketing for the US, acknowledged that bringing a new software platform Stateside would be “a challenge.” At the moment Samsung doesn’t believe that the US “is a great test market” for Tizen, and won’t release products based on it there - at least not in the near future. “We don't want to set ourselves up for failure," declared Bidan. Instead, Tizen devices will be launched…

Industry…

Samsung reportedly trying to forge a Tizen/Firefox OS partnership

Reports suggest that Samsung is pursuing a partnership with Mozilla, hoping to bring Firefox OS together with Tizen. At a recent conference, Samsung’s Chief Secretary Wonsuk Lee, noted that a relationship between the two is possible. Not only is it possible, it’s technically feasible. Both operating systems are HTML5 based, meaning apps written for one app can be used for the other. That also means mobile apps for Chrome could be pinched, though those are currently not optimized for mobiles. Tizen is…

Samsung develops transparent screen within Tizen IVI concept

The video above gives you an inkling of an idea, a glimpse of the screens that might be. It’s what a driver/user one day might accept to be as normal as windshield wipers. And it’s not just for “your own car”: It can also communicate with the cars around you. This might seem farfetched but in the Netherlands emergency services are using FM and radio messaging to inform you that you are between the fire fighters and a fire, or the paramedics and an urgent call. It operates along the traffic signal…
