BlackBerry commercial shown at Superbowl
The much-hyped BlackBerry commercial that was to be aired during the Superbowl has just been shown.
BlackBerry chose to go with what the BlackBerry Z10 can’t do, opposed to what it can do!
BlackBerry Chief Marketing Officer Frank Boulben believes that the commercial will turn heads and get consumers primed for and ready for a launch that’s still more than a month away in the US.
“The Super Bowl is a big wake-up call saying BlackBerry is back,” Boulben said.
“It says there’s something worth checking out.”
Boulben, who is more than aware just how crucial marketing will be to BlackBerry 10, says the commercial is a one-off event to take advantage of the Super Bowl’s massive reach.
The commercial starts with a brief look at the BlackBerry Z10 and then the new BlackBerry customer erupts in flames, grows elephant legs, teleports himself with a colorful poof, and turns an out-of-control truck into thousands of rubber ducks.
The commercial then tells the viewer to go and check out the BlackBerry’s Z10 Web site to find out more information.
Boulben pointed out that the commercial is a one-off and completely different from the rest of the marketing campaign for the Z10.
“We wanted to do something that breaks the conventions of the category,” he said. “If you do a traditional commercial at the Super Bowl, it will fall flat.”
What did you think of the commercial. Has it set the right tone or are you disappointed?
