Rogers and CIBC go ‘live’ with new NFC mobile payment option for BlackBerry Bold 9900 and Curve 9360
Mobile payments in Canada will get a boost tomorrow as Rogers and CIBC will be going live with their new mobile payment option.
This service will be called “suretap,” or the app will specifically go by the name of “CIBC Mobile Payment.”
This new service will give Rogers customers who have the NFC-enabled BlackBerry Bold 9900 or the Curve 9360 the ability to pay for small value items via their device, then billed to their CIBC credit card.
These two BlackBerry devices are the only ones currently compatible, but others will be added soon.
The “first mobile credit card payment in the country” will take place tomorrow at 11:00am in Toronto at a local Tim Hortons.
The celebrity who will usher in this new era is Olympic gold medalist Simon Whitfield.
