Microsoft is working on an ad campaign that shows off the Windows Phone homescreens of various folks.

The ads focus on the phone, showing off its interface elements, and the voice of the person who owns the phone.

The strategy is plain:

If Microsoft can get a few movie actors, pop stars, professional athletes, and famous celebrities in general to use Windows Phone 8 devices, customise them, and narrate an ad like the one above, the company could have a great campaign on its hands.

The video above has been released over here and features the beautiful Holly Willoughby (I actually called her Willoughbooby originally and caught my mistake and edited it.  Blame Keith Lemon).

While the video from Canada below shows Canadian actor and comedian Will Arnett.

In the UK, Microsoft will also use Jay-Z, Gwen Stefani, and James Corden in Windows Phone 8 ads, with more to be announced.

Now, you may be wondering what this has to do with RIM and BlackBerry 10.  In a way – everything.

Marketing is going to be crucial to the launch of BlackBerry 10.  It doesn’t matter how good the final product may be, if they get the marketing wrong, it could be catastrophic.

Microsoft’s strategy is effective and this is what RIM are going to need in bucket loads.

The need top celebrities onboard promoting and encouraging their fans about the virtues of BlackBerry 10.

Hopefully, Frank Boulben and his team are already working on media campaigns and have a good few ‘real’ celebrities lined up.

Who would you like to see advertise BlackBerry 10?
