The BlackBerry Z10 will be available in the UAE starting today at a retail price of Dh2,599.

Both telecom operators in the UAE — etisalat and du — and some retailers have already started advanced booking for the new handset.

du has launched both prepaid and postpaid services along with the Z10.

The offers range from both individual and corporate customers and provides varied options including obtaining a handset with an annual contract for just Dh599.

Anyone purchasing a Z10 by paying Dh2,599 will automatically be entitled for free 100MB worth of usage for the first six months. You will have to spend a minimum of Dh250 every month and it will entitle you to avail 1GB of data for the next 30 days. However, those purchasing a Z10 before April are also entitled for 4GB free data valued for 90 days for prepaid customers and for 4 months for postpaid customers.

In comparison, an ordinary usage plan entitles a customer for 100MB for Dh50, 1GB of data for Dh100, 4GB of data for Dh200 and 25GB of data forDh500 all valued for one month.
For an additional monthly commitment of Dh400 corporate customers can get 10GB of internet, 250 free national minutes, 250 free international minutes, 50 per cent discount between the mobile group and Dh1.65 per minute to 190 international destinations.
BlackBerry also believe that they key to success in the UAE will be more localised apps.

BlackBerry’s country director Chris Corsi stated:

“We are working very closely with content providers in the region and more and more localised apps will be available,”

BlackBerry believes localised contents will be very important for the launch and the future of BlackBerry 10 in the region, Corsi added.

One of the important features of the new system is the BlackBerry Messenger Voice service, which may be blocked by UAE telecom operators as it will directly hit their revenues. It allows free phone calls over Wi-Fi.

“We are very closely working with governments and carrier teams to make sure that we give the best experience to customers in the UAE. We wish to launch our device here with all the services,” he said.
