BlackBerry still racing ahead in South Africa

Vodacom revealed on the other day that they currently have 2.7 million BlackBerry smartphones on its South African network, making it by far the most popular smartphone brand in the country.

The number of BlackBerry users is significantly higher than the number of Android users (700,000) and the number of iPhone users (500,000) on the Vodacom network.

In July 2012 Vodacom said that it had 2.4 million BlackBerry smartphones on their network, which means that this number grew by around 300,000 over the last three months.

Over the same period the number of Android users grew by 200,000 and the number of iPhone users increased by around 250,000.

The following chart gives the breakdown of BlackBerry, iPhone and Android users on Vodacom South Africa’s network
