BlackBerry applies for patent to determine your location using celestial objects
BlackBerry’s development team has patented technology to determine your location using celestial objects.
The patent was filed just over a year ago, but has yet to be officially granted.
Officially, the patent application covers “Device position method and apparatus using celestial objects.”
BlackBerry’s patent details how a smartphone could be pointed at the horizon and automatically detect a “celestial object” like the Sun, Moon or stars.
Then, using the time of day on the device and the angle from the ground, determine where you are in the world.
