Arduino Micro packs more power into less space
Back in September, Research In Motion was handing out the Arduino Uno microcontroller to developers that filled out a survey about their experience at BlackBerry Jam Americas.
The Arduino Uno microcontroller is a do-it-yourself PCB board that is used for open source prototyping. The board gets you started on building your own robot to controlling your TV.
Size does matter, at least, when it comes to things like the Arduino Micro.
If you’re wondering what exactly is so special about the newly-announced Arduino Micro board, the answer’s right there in the name—the Arduino Micro is tiny.
The Arduino Micro is a joint effort between Arduino and Adafruit Industries.
This tiny board has all of the swagger of an Arduino Leonardo microcontroller but is only a fraction of the Leonardo’s bulk, measuring in at a petite 48mm by 18mm (1.9 inches by 0.7 inches).
According to its creators, the Arduino Micro is based on the ATmega32u4 mictocontroller.
Additionally, thanks to the fact the 32U4 handles the USB directly, the board is capable of emulating a computer keyboard and mouse, among other things.
On an even more technical front, the Arduino Micro has 20 digital I/O pins, micro USB support, and a reset button, to name a few of its on-board features. According to its creators, the Arduino Micro is designed for use on both breadboards and PCB-based DIY projects.
The Arduino Micro will come in two different flavors (one with headers, one without). It will be available for pre-order from all major Arduino distributors beginning next week, and it should ship on November 26. Head on over to the Arduino site to learn more.
