Apple vs Samsung Verdict – Google Comments

Google has commented on the Apple vs Samsung verdict that saw the Korean manufacturer found guilty of infringing on Apple’s intellectual property patents.

Google’s comment aims to distance themselves from the lawsuit itself, specifying that the patents don’t relate to the ‘core Android operating system’ in a bid to prevent other Android OEMs suffer the same fate as Samsung.

Google simply said:

“The court of appeals will review both infringement and the validity of the patent claims. Most of these don’t relate to the core Android operating system, and several are being re-examined by the U.S. Patent Office. The mobile industry is moving fast and all players — including newcomers — are building upon ideas that have been around for decades. We work with our partners to give consumers innovative and affordable products, and we don’t want anything to limit that.”

The Apple vs Samsung lawsuit came to a conclusion a few days back, with the jury spending less than three days deliberating the verdict before ruling in favour of Apple. Apple has been awarded $1.05 billion in damages and may also push for a sales ban of infringing Samsung devices.

The verdict just may be some good news for Research In Motion if they take advantage of it.
